18 easy questions, instant score

IQ Test for Kids

This free IQ-style test is built specifically for children, using simpler vocabulary, more concrete concepts and shorter questions than our standard adult test. It covers 18 questions across five friendly categories (number patterns, word comparisons, odd-one-out, shape patterns, and simple word problems) and gives an instant estimated score at the end, no email, sign-up or download required. It is designed for roughly ages 8 to 14, though younger children may enjoy it with a parent reading questions aloud, and older children can try our full standard IQ test instead.

What makes this test kid-friendly

Every question on this page was written specifically for a younger audience rather than simplified from adult material. Number sequences use small, easy-to-count numbers. Word comparisons use everyday concepts (animals, colors, weather, family) instead of abstract vocabulary. Odd-one-out questions use familiar categories like animals, fruit and days of the week. The shape-pattern questions use simple repeating patterns rather than complex multi-rule sequences, and the logic questions are short, real-world style word problems (counting apples, counting wheels) rather than abstract syllogisms. The test is also untimed, so there is no pressure to rush, and each question is shown one at a time with a visible progress bar so a child always knows how much is left.

How the score works, explained simply

At the end of the test, we count how many of the 18 questions were answered correctly and turn that into an estimated score using the same general method used across most published intelligence scales: a score of 100 represents doing about as well as an average child of a similar age typically would, and higher or lower scores move up or down from there. A full explanation with an example is on our IQ score chart page. For a child, we would frame the result simply as: "this shows how you did on today's puzzle game, not a permanent grade on how smart you are." Children's performance on any single test can vary quite a bit day to day depending on tiredness, mood, and how comfortable they feel with the format, so please treat any single result as a fun snapshot, not a label.

Frequently asked questions

What age is this test suitable for?
It is written for roughly ages 8 to 14. Younger children can often manage it with an adult reading the questions aloud, and teenagers who find it too easy may prefer our full standard IQ test.
Is this a clinical or diagnostic test for children?
No. This is a free, entertainment and self-assessment style tool, not a clinically validated or professionally administered children's cognitive assessment. If you have genuine concerns about a child's development or learning, please consult a qualified school psychologist or pediatrician.
Do we need to sign up or give an email address?
No. There is no account, no email collection and no payment wall. The test and the result are both completely free and appear instantly on this page.
Is any information about my child saved or sent anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely in the browser; no answers, scores or personal information are sent to a server or stored anywhere. See our privacy policy for full detail.
How long does it take?
Most children finish the 18 questions in 5 to 10 minutes. There is no timer, so a child can take as long as they are comfortable with.
My child got a low score, should I be worried?
Not from a single short online test. Performance on any test can vary a lot with tiredness, mood and familiarity with the format, especially for children. Treat the result as a fun snapshot rather than a judgment, and if you have ongoing concerns, speak with a qualified professional rather than relying on any online test, including this one.
